Deep Fried Jackfruit

1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour, divided
1/4 teaspoon ground turmeric
1/8 teaspoon baking powder
a pinch of white sugar
a pinch of salt
1/2 cups water
oil for frying
10 pieces drained jackfruit

Mix turmeric, baking powder, sugar, salt, and 1 cup of the flour in a bowl. Mix in water, a little at a time, until the batter is thick (you might use less than a half cup).

Heat oil in a deep-fryer or large saucepan over medium heat.

Put the remaining 1/2 cup of flour on a plate.
Roll each piece of jackfruit in the flour.
Dip the jackfruit in the batter and cook in batches in hot oil until golden brown, 2 to 3 minutes per side.
